Speeding fines in Spain

The Spanish authorities take speeding offences very seriously and points are withdrawn from your driving licence if you are caught. There will also be a substantial fine.

Please remember that if you are living in Spain, and from a non-EU country (such as the U.K.) then you have a maximum of 6 months to get your driving licence exchanged for a Spanish licence. There is no need to take a new test but you must go through the administration process and prove you are fit to drive by undertaking a medical aptitude test.

If you do not exchange your licence in that period then you could be fined by the Spanish authorities. Note: holidaymakers can continue to use their U.K. driving licence in Spain.
